Love Letters 2018: Coding Valentine’s Day Cards
Lily Donaldson
Love Letters is a campaign to make Valentine’s Day cards for senior meal delivery services. Love Letters was created by DoSomething.org in partnership with Meals on Wheels America in 2016. Our 2018 campaign worked with Edmund Burke School, Jelleff Boys and Girls Club, and American University students to make 161 STEM themed and #MadeWithCode cards for Iona Senior Services.
The handmade cards had corresponding mini-STEM lessons in subjects such as geology, brain anatomy, plant biology, and chemistry. The #MadeWithCode cards were coded with CoffeeScript. The cards were distributed by Iona at the Feb. 9 weekend meal delivery service and at the Feb. 14 in house meal service.
You can use the Love Letters: Creative Coding lesson plan to learn to code your own Valentine’s Day cards! To request a workshop for your school or student group, email team@arttechnically.org.
