I spoke to over 1,200 students this week about the April 8th solar eclipse! Students at the workshops learned about eclipse science, eclipse safety, and citizen science. Each student received a pair of eclipse glasses provided by Art Technically – 1,700 pairs of eclipse glasses were distributed across New York and 73% of the participating students receive free/reduced lunch (it’s very important to us that STEM programs like this one reach Title 1/low-income and rural schools).

5th-8th graders at the Auburn School District in New York learned about the science of eclipses, how to view the eclipse safely, and how they can help NASA do eclipse science with the citizen science GLOBE app. Students at Richmond Hill High School in Queens, New York also received eclipse glasses provided by Art Technically.

The eclipse workshops included an eclipse science demonstration which used light projection and shadows to demonstrate the different types of eclipses. You can see how we made that demonstration in a video below.
