Astrobotany: Growing Plants in Space

The Astrobotany workshop teaches students biology, physics, and space science topics through the field of astrobotany, or growing plants in space.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will examine the importance of nutrition, both for astronauts and themselves
  • Students will use understand the importance of plants in sustaining life on Earth and beyond
  • Students will examine plants’ needs
  • Students will explore the electromagnetic spectrum, especially as it relates to LED lighting for plants
  • Students will explore careers in space science
