Who created Among Us? What would your reaction be if you were told that Among Us was created by a total of three people in a Washington-based studio? Pretty shocking, right?

The three pioneers of Among Us were Forest Willard, Marcus Bromander and Amy Liu. They all worked under the name of InnerSloth, an indie game studio responsible for Dig2China and The Henry Stickmin Collection. Forest was the programmer while managing business matters of InnerSloth, Marcus was the main animator and game designer while Amy became the third helping hand for art and merchandise development.

As previously stated, this game has been in the market since 2018. Even if it has been in the market for two years, it gained popularity pretty recently. Let’s take two days for comparison: Sept. 27th, 2019 at 12am and Sept. 27th, 2020 at 12am. A year ago on that date, the average viewers ranged on 33 people; the peak viewers at 618 people. Fast forward to Sept. 27th, 2020. The game had an average viewers count of 258,020, and a peak of 745,468 viewers at 12am.

This goes to show how far teamwork and perseverance can go, and how dreams – no matter how big or small – can always become a reality. For some, it may take a short time or a long time. In the end, it is all about the effort and the results yielded by not giving up!

Who made it famous?

In the era of online gaming, YouTubers and Twitch streamers are the ones who indirectly dictate which games become famous and which one doesn’t. Even if they don’t do it with that purpose, positive reviews of an indie game often lead to their fanbase downloading the game; while negative reviews do the contrary.

This is exactly what happened with Among Us. The game had enjoyed a sudden burst in popularity due to a Korean YouTuber back in 2019, followed by people from Brazil and other Latin American countries.

The turning point, however, came when the Twitch star named “Sodapoppin” played it with a couple of friends. This gave the game a popularity that worked like a Domino Effect. Twitch streamers joined the trend, and before long YouTubers like PewDiePie and Markiplier were playing the game!

This is an example of how actions can affect everybody. The simplest thing a YouTuber can do is play a simple yet fun game like Among Us — but that small action can go a long way for three individuals working on an independent game design studio.
