STEAM and Movies

Truth be told, no movie can be created without STEAM being involved. Let me explain:

Science

When there is no CGI involved, a lot of movie scenes require scientific intervention to give off the most realistic look possible. Have you seen realistic food in movies? Obviously. Truth is most of it comes from at home studios, and it isn’t real at all

Shocking, isn’t it?

That’s where fake food artists such as Lisa Friedman and Brenda Chapman come in.

Lisa Friedman mixes her love for art and cooking with different materials like foam and rubber to make fake food. Brenda Chapman uses her experience and common craft materials to make her products.

If cooking is an art, then faking food is a science that combines chemistry and intellect to trick an audience.

Technology

Eadweard J. Muybridge

Movies haven’t been here for more than one and a half centuries. The first movie ever was made in 1878, by Eadweard J. Muybridge. It was simple, using twelve separate cameras to capture a running horse.

Why hadn’t movies been created before?

Easy, the technology needed was non-existent. Hence, we have to thank the technological advances we have made for all the movies you know and love.

Engineering

Technology can’t be created without meticulous engineering. A camera wasn’t put together all in one night. All the stage props seen in movies were achieved through meticulous engineering and inventions. Animatronics, for instance, need a mixture of computer science for programming, engineering to make it work as it should, and technology to put everything together.

Art

Art is what binds everything together in a pleasing way. Of course, beauty is subjective and so is art. However, art isn’t only paintings.

Art is the costumes made for your favorite superheroes. Art is photography. Art is cinematography. Art is knowing the best angles and places to film.

Art is what makes everything in movies look as it should while having meaning. You better believe everything put in a scene is there for a reason because it is.

Math

Behind every successful movie, there is a dedicated business team that uses numbers in their planning. Without careful money and time management, a project can be doomed.

Math can also be applied to other aspects. For example, you can’t have the perfect costume without precise cuts and math to make everything fit perfectly.
